The International Council of Nurses has set the theme for International Nurses Day 2020 as "Nursing the world to health", with a focus on the "true value of nurses to the people of the world".

The current pandemic has shone a golden light on the essential work of nurses, the world over. The theme of "nursing the world to health" is rightly resonating everywhere.

Our Prime Minister Scott Morrison as well as the UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson, have both publicly thanked nurses for the work they do. Boris Johnson especially thanked the nurses who cared for him when he was a coronavirus patient in hospital. He stated:

"For every second of the night ...[they] were watching and they were caring".

His experience of nursing care is far from unique. All nurses, the world over, know that although our work is often unseen and undervalued, the care that we give makes a profound difference to our society.

Ausmed Education joins with all nurses around the world to celebrate the anniversary of the birth of Florence Nightingale on 12 May, 1820. Florence Nightingale is generally recognised as the founder of modern nursing.

Let us all celebrate International Nurses Day together.
